With countless health and beauty benefits, it seems that there is no end to its beneficial uses. Here are just some ideas on ways you can use olive oil to beautify your body.

Beauty starts from the inside.
As Hippocrates once said, “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” There are very few foods that are as good at medicating as olive oil is! Full of antioxidants and monounsaturated fats, it’s no wonder that some cardiologists recommend that patients consume at least one teaspoon of olive oil per day. Oleocanthal, one of the main substances found in extra virgin olive oil, is known to combat inflammation, which can cause a host of health problems. Two of the other powerhouse ingredients found in extra virgin olive oil are lignans and squalene, both of which are being studied for their possible protective properties against cancer. Need more persuasion? Some of the other conditions that olive oil is reputed to alleviate or prevent are: high blood pressure, obesity, diabetes, strokes, and osteoperosis.

Luckily, it’s easy to incorporate olive oil into your diet. Although it is high in calories, you only need a bit to make a difference. Whether you’re putting olive oil into your salad dressing or pasta, or even mixing it into a smoothie, your body will thank you.

If it was good enough for Cleopatra, it’s good enough for you.
Wealthy ancient Romans, Greeks, and Egyptians all used olive oil to moisturize and replenish their skin. Applied topically, olive oil is also reported to fight acne. Forget about high-priced treatments and make yourself a homemade mask! The best part is that you probably have all of the ingredients in your kitchen already. You can whip up a teaspoon of olive oil with an egg white and a few drops of lemon then apply it to your face. Wash it off after about 20 minutes and you will notice that your face feels more firm, smooth, and healthy. Another great mixture to try is olive oil and honey. It can be fun to raid your kitchen and experiment with different olive oil based recipes!

Unconventional can be fun.
Olive oil has many unconventional uses as well. Rough heels or elbows? Dab some olive oil on those trouble spots and watch the skin smooth out. Need to clean your cosmetic brushes? You can do that with olive oil! Forget to buy shaving cream? Or lip balm? Or makeup remover? Yes, olive oil can stand in as a substitute for all of these beauty products. Talk about versatile!

It’s all about your hair.
Olive oil can be used to enhance your mane in all sorts of ways. Just a dab goes a long way in solving flyaways and many other hair dilemmas. Why spend lots of money on a serum when you can use olive oil? Another great way to treat hair with olive oil is to do your own deep-conditioning treatment. Pop some olive oil into the microwave for a few seconds, just long enough to warm it up. Then apply the oil to your entire head, making sure to focus on areas that may need a little extra help. For instance, if you know that one part of your hair has a lot of split ends or damage from coloring, be certain to apply a generous amount of oil to those areas. Put on a shower cap, wait 20-30 minutes, and then you’re done. Homespun hair treatments never looked so good!

  1. Olive oil is a natural juice that preserves the taste, aroma, vitamins and properties of the olive fruit. It is the only vegetable oil that can be consumed as it is – freshly pressed from the fruit.
